Shadow Lifeforms

"Shadow lifeforms" (or "Shadows") is a name given to the creatures native to the The Dark World. Like the Dark World, the reason of existence for the Shadows is unknown. However, it is known that as organic life enters the original world, Shadows are created in the Dark World.

Description

The term "Shadow" is as vague as the term "organism." They range from the size of a virus cell to the size of a skyscraper (some have theorized that The Dark World's "anti-suns" are also some breed of Shadow), from freakishly irregular to humanoid, from aquatic to airborne, from blood chillingly aggressive to relatively docile, and so on. However, they are recurrently uncivilized, unconcerned with each other (except for cannibalistic Shadows), and incommunicable. They also always have skin that is either completely tar black, or a combination of random other dark colors.

Significance in the story

There isn't very much influence from the Shadow lifeforms in the storyline. The Shadows are, for the most part, just an obstacle for everyone who goes through The Dark World, sometimes including other Shadows.
