Origin

Dark energy is a radioactive resource extremely abundant in The Dark World. It is primarily radiated from The Dark Moons, a pair of planet-like, organic structures that orbit the Dark World's side of Earth from either side.

Properties

Dark energy is also a type of dangerous radiation, able to cause cancer in mammals, as well as various, bizarre mutations in other animals after several hours of exposure. Though, like any dangerous substance, it makes for extremely efficient fuel. The First Eykan, being appointed in The Dark World, took complete advantage of this, and ordered his employed engineers to weaponize dark energy. This mainly resulted in super-efficient engines, which would be used to power Antigravity Electromagnets, as well as energy weapons up to a high-yield energy cannon.

Various materials have also been known to change atomic structure through exposure to dark energy; some materials more than others. It will cause any breed of wood (living or not) to decompose into soil at a rate about 200x the rate at which dead wood decomposes on the ground in the light world. It will also "mutate" metals to be the density rate to be extremely high, and change the color to be a matte, dark purple. This has been dubbed "Dark Metal."

In most cases, whatever metal object gets mutated by dark energy will keep its shape. For instance, if someone left a full-metal sword bathing in dark energy, it will maintain its weight, but decrease in volume. How much it shrinks depends on how dense it is in the first place. The amount it shrinks is dependent on the amount of difference in the density between the original metal, and the density of Dark Metal. Aluminum would shrink immensely, where Lawrencium would not shrink nearly as much.
